Nobleman #3

The Industrial Revolution has been occurring for numerous years and new technologies, factories, and the
labourers has overall increased my profit, even though I am against the growing middle class. It seems as if the middle class are gaining more rights, and as the Industrial Revolution advances, the middle class are protesting for more rights. But the goods coming from my factories and farms on my land are bringing more profits, growing numerous guineas, even though the new government reforms forced me to cut hours and pay my workers more. The industrial revolution is a large trade-off. My brother William has made success at his textile factory in Westminster, and we met last night at the finest London restaurant. Colonel has decided to move to America for a better future. Life in Westminster has drastically changed with new inventions and technology. But, with every year, there are many problems...
Years ago, only the wealthy nobleman was able to vote for the House of Commons in Parliament. The upperclass became members of the Parliament and the system was very organised. But the recent reforms and laws have made the new voting requirements too radical! First there was the Reform Bill of 1832, allowing the upper middle class to vote, which was more than enough. Then the voting districts were changed and even more laws were passed! I was starting to become angry at that point because the middle class is incapable of making the right choices. Later, the working class men and male rural workers got to vote. Absolutely horrible! And now the women are rioting for voting rights!
Moreover, the Irish are now wanting more rights! They already have seats in Parliament, and the Catholic Emancipation Act was passed in 1829. The Irish are demanding home rule for more control on domestic matters. But what about the protestants in the north? Should they be persecuted?
On the other hand, the new rise of mass entertainment is terrible! It is only giving more and more privileges to the working class, which previously only the wealthy had. The filthy working class are receiving shorter hours and are now invading the various music halls, art exhibits, and movie theatres in the community. That's less work finished by the end of the day for me and other nobles and more time for the labourers to enjoy their free time with entertainment which only the wealthy should have access to. Furthermore, I have heard of these mysterious vaudevilles with comedians, jugglers, acrobats, and other acts in the United States of America and I plan to see one of these shows if I visit America. Here in Britain and elsewhere, sports are becoming increasingly popular. I have already watched some cricket and football games, but the working class at the games are terribly annoying. Since we are allowing these peasants to go watch the entertainment, at least make a special section for the nobility in the front.
The increase in inventions have transformed my life for the better. The new light bulb by Thomas Edison in Menlo Park, NJ has been imported to Britain, where I have been using them for my factories, so the labourers can work for longer hours. I have also placed them at my brothers' and my homes so we have better lighting for dinner, writing letters, talk on the telephone, and other evening activities. Speaking of the telephone, Alexander Graham Bell's new telephone has made importing and sending factory goods and crops and making deals with companies much easier. Also, I am able to talk with other nobles about the numerous issues the working class have and their poor attitudes about the "horrible" working conditions. Ford and his new assembly lines for building new cars is a fantastic idea. I would be able to travel across my various farms and factories in Kent, Essex, and Suffolk much faster than before. His $300 Model T Ford is very cheap and I wish to obtain one soon. Now only if the assembly line made cars for the left side of the road...

  1. I feel that it's a good thing that the middle class has more rights. But of course you could never agree with that due to your status.

  2. I have also become prosperous due to the revolution and I believe in rights for everyone but I don't like how my profits could be damaged.

  3. I also have become prosperous because of the revolution and want rights for everyone but I fear for my success if they get rights.

  4. I am a wealthy exporter and I absolutely deserve rights. But I agree the working class and rural farmers should not get the same privilege.
