Hello again! Things have changed a bit since my last post. In my last post, I said I would never sell my land to an entrepreneur so it could become an enclosure, but I was drunk and foolish so when that man that comes to my farm every week made his rounds and offered a even larger amount of money I accepted. What a damn fool I am! If my father ever saw me do that he would never forgive me! I've been drinking away my sorrow, exactly the way I got it. So now that I'm in an enclosure, I have to share my profits and could possibly be kicked out of my own farm (I don't technically own it anymore anyway) But other than that life is pretty good. The Industrial Revolution has been going on for a little while now and I'm really starting to benefit from it. Travel is easier, and many more products are much more in stock now and much more cheaper. I explained most of these things in my last post (Which was a bit too long), but just wanted to restate them. I have never actually left Great britain before, I've been to Scotland once when I was a young lad and I've been to Wales several times for business. What I'd really like to do is travel into continental Europe! Especially France. I've always wanted to go to France, and now with the money I got from becoming part of the enclosure I finally can! I plan to go next week. I'll tell you all about it next post. It should be very nice and a different experience than boring old rainy foggy England.
The spread of industrialization has really helped me a lot though, even though I'm in the enclosure now. They take some of my crops but not all of them, so I still make some reasonable money. With trade increasing not just in Great Britain, but all of Europe I can now easily sell my crops to places like Germany and Belgium as well. England isn't the only developed nation in Europe now, Belgium is adopting many of our technologies and many Brits are also moving there. One man named William Cockerill (Who's from Lancashire County) snuck into Belgium and started making spinning machinery. His son John later started an industrial enterprise in Eastern Belgium. Germany was also becoming more industrialized, building railroads and sending their children to England to learn Industrial Management. All of Europe is truly being affected by this Industrial Revolution!
Another thing that I would like to talk about is the Communist Manifesto. The Communist Manifesto is a thirty page pamphlet written by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. In the pamphlet Marx argues that all of human history has been a class struggle between the bourgeoisie and the proletariat. He says that the bourgeoisie are the wealthy exporters and entrepreneurs and the proletariat are the working class who have terrible conditions. In The Communist Manifesto Marx predicts that the Industrial Revolution would cause people like me and many other farmers and factory workers to overthrow our owners and landlords. ¨Workingmen of all countries, unite!¨ I don't believe this could ever happen in England. Everyone around here is so conservative and uninteresting, even with the Industrial Revolution and all. If this did ever happen it would be nice though. Everyone in my enclosure would be freed! That would be nice. But what would happen afterward the wealthy are thrown over? The poor factory workers and farmers run the country? I could never run a country and I doubt a bunch of ten-year old factory workers could either. It just wouldn't work. But it appeals to the poor and hopeless though, who knows? Maybe someday it might actually happen somewhere, maybe even in Europe. Probably Russia.
I agree that the industrial revolution has been helpful to mostly everyone as everyone i read on this blog has benefited greatly.
